LOCATION
We wanted our location to be interesting however to not take away from the story line. Instead we wanted a location that would compliment our plot. We found this location on the East Coast of Northern Ireland. Our film is set in the rural setting of Bloody Bridge, just outside Newcastle, County Down. We wanted a secluded, isolated location that could be virtually unchanged by modern developments, in other words be as rural as it was in the 1700s.
Another reason that we had to choose Bloody Bridge as our location was the eery history surrounding the name of it. There is speculation as to what exactly happen here.
In his 1898 `Guide to County Down and the Mourne Mountains', Robert Lloyd Praegar writes, 'It derives its gruesome name from the massacre of a number of protestants of Newry, including their minister, in the troubled year of 1641 at the instigation of Sir Conn Magennis.'
Other accounts of this have been recorded by Harris, who wrote what he heard over the truth and for this reason he is not sure whether 24 people or 50 people die. Either way, the people were barbarically killed hence the name Bloody Bridge.
The unnerving stories surrounding this place create a perfect atmosphere to film our idea, despite today it being the most well known landmark of South Down. It is a beautiful place, visited by many especially in the summer.
The time of year that we are filming will be helpful to us and hopefully there won't be many people there.

Annalong Forest
Our second location is only a few mile from Bloody Bridge. We felt this location was perfect as there is a cottage situated in a forest. The cottage is obviously abandoned and the lack of a noticeable path adds to this. The surrounding forest adds to the isolated atmosphere and is similar to how a forest is used as a location in "the witch". As well as this location being aesthetically powerful it also fits perfectly with our story line. The cottage is situated away from any traffic or houses which takes away any possible issues with noise pollution. The cottage has a path for easy access however it does not often travelled which will hopefully lead to an easier shoot.
Some Issues We Could Face
Due to our location being entirely outside we are aware that this could cause several problems. Even though are location is very remote it is still a public place with national trust walk ways travelling along side. This means that we have to be aware when there is any traffic on nearby paths to ensure there is no noise pollution when we are filming. Although we will not face many issues with traffic as it is far away from any main roads there may be flight paths including private planes which I have previously seen in the area. This raises the possibility of us having to pause filming until there is minimal background sound. Again due to the rural location we must be aware of any livestock that local farmers have in nearby fields.
